When we first saw the patina on the numerals of this antique pocket watch dial, we figured we should use a bronze crown in order to accentuate and proliferate that into the rest of the watch. We also wanted to frame the dial with something that fit well with the interesting geometric pattern of the sub-dial, so we used a scalloped bezel. We also polished the scalloped bezel to add another layer and really showcase the patina on the dial.

This 17-jewel movement, dial and hands were originally manufactured by the Illinois Watch Company in 1932, which is the same year the first Zippo lighter was created by George Blaisdell. Another iconic American brand, Zippo, unlike Illinois Watch Co, is still around today and still has a lifetime guarantee. Do you think anyone has an original 1932 Zippo that still works...

For the rest of this watch, we used a stainless steel case, and our beautiful Horween Shell Cordovan strap in Oxblood. The combination of colors really works and makes this dial pop.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1710/0345/files/VORTIC-SPRINGFIELD-WOTD2025-02-114_27397.jpg?v=1739819615
